Julian Week 2014
For the second year running, Julian Week in 2014 will offer the people of Norwich and Norfolk a wide variety of events to learn about and celebrate one of their most famous citizens, the medieval writer, theologian, and mystic, Julian of Norwich whose book, The Revelations of Divine Love is internationally famous. With concerts, art installations, creative writing workshops, informal talks and public lectures, and craft and educational opportunities for children and families, everyone will have the chance to engage with Julian of Norwich and her rich cultural, spiritual, and literary legacy.
In 2014, Julian Week is especially pleased to have the former Archbishop of Canterbury Lord Williams speaking on Julian of Norwich on the morning of 10 May at Norwich Cathedral as part of the Julian Festival of the Friends of Julian of Norwich. The internationally recognised book art forum, Turn the Page, will offer illuminated manuscript workshops and associated artist Jules Allen will be displaying artists’ books at the Forum and the Julian Shrine. The Norwich Writer’s Centre will present a creative writing workshop that will engage directly with Julian’s text. Sarah Law, a highly regarded poet and lecturer at London Metropolitan University, will offer a poetry reading from her newly published book of poems, Ink’s Wish, while CAIM, a musical group from Ireland and Scotland will present a concert based on Julian’s Revelations. The Friends of Julian will present a dramatic reading of Sheila Upjohn’s play about Julian, Mind out of Time. Over a dozen further talks, lectures, meditations with Julian, tours of St. Julian’s Church, craft events and children’s educational workshops will also be offered.
